The landscape setting of the Lidsing Garden Community has played a significant part in determining the design framework options for the development. Because of the proximity of the Lidsing Garden Community to the Kent Downs National Landscape, which is located to the south of the M2 motorway, previous consultation and discussion has taken place with the National Landscape Management Unit to inform the emerging masterplan and design approach for the Lidsing Garden Community. As such, a landscape-led approach has informed the location of the developable areas of the Garden Community as well as the density and height of future development, such that the established key views into the site from its surroundings are maintained and enhanced. The landscape-led approach to the design of the development has also resulted in the development of an open space network within the Garden Community site that makes use of the existing green and blue infrastructure within the site and links this to existing green and blue infrastructure adjoining and surrounding the site.
