LOCATION

The Lidsing Garden Community site is located within the Borough of Maidstone, on the boundary with Medway. The site is located at the southern end of the Capstone Corridor, where it meets the M2 motorway. The Lidsing Garden Community adjoins the existing neighbourhoods of Lordswood to the west and Hempstead to the east and north. Beyond the M2 to the south is the village of Bredhurst, which is situated within the Kent Downs National Landscape. The Medway towns of Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham lie 4 miles to the north of the site. The land within the Lidsing allocation is under the control of FD Attwood & Partners.

The Lidsing Garden Community will deliver a mix of up to 2,000 new homes and 14 hectares of employment land alongside a new direct road connection to Junction 4 bridging the M2 motorway. The Lidsing development will also provide for education, health, landscaping and open space and other infrastructure in line with the adopted policy (Policy LPRSP4B).

The Lidsing Garden Community site comprises an area of 140 hectares, which is divided into two separate parts by the M2 motorway:

  • 120ha to the north of the M2 motorway, all of which lies outside of the National Landscape and is all under the control of FD Attwood & Partners. This area will be developed as the Garden Community.

  • 20ha south of the M2. This area will be planted as a 19ha woodland and provide a road link direct to Junction 4 of the M2. No other development is planned within this area.
