vision

In 2057, Lidsing Garden Community will be an established and thriving community with a distinctive local character, form and identity which provides strong linkages with the surrounding urban and rural services, facilities and communities and will serve to enhance the open space network of the Capstone Valley.

The Lidsing Garden Community will be an exemplar urban extension, delivering 2,000 new homes and improving connectivity in south Medway. The central feature of this improved connectivity will be a new east-west link road running from North Dane Way to Junction 4 of the M2 Motorway, connecting to the junction via a new bridge over the motorway and adding a fourth arm to the existing roundabout. Routes across the site will be significantly improved, with a focus on pedestrian and cycle connections, and a new orbital bus route connecting to Lordswood and Hempstead and onto the Medway Towns will bring benefits to the wider community.

Lidsing Garden Community will be a holistically planned new settlement which enhances the natural environment of its location at the south of the Capstone Valley, adjacent to the Kent Downs National Landscape. The location of the site offers opportunities to create a strong leisure link north-south through the site allowing biodiversity and non-car access  connections to the Capstone Country Park and  National Landscape.

The new garden community will change the character of the area, establishing a new settlement adjoining the urban area of Medway with its own identity, unique but well-related to existing neighbouring communities. It will be a settlement centred on well-defined landscape infrastructure that links new places to live and converges on a new local centre that provides retail, sporting, health and education facilities. Lidsing Garden Community will provide a genuinely landscape-led settlement which responds robustly to the challenges and opportunities of climate change, adopting models of best practice as an exemplar development.

The Lidsing Garden Community offers a unique opportunity to deliver the vision through a collaborative approach because of one main factor, which is all of the development land is under the control of FD Attwood & Partners. As a result, there can be a direct partnership between the landowner, the community, key stakeholders and planning decision makers as part of this process which explores possibilities and tests options which will allow a truly creative approach for planning new ways of living that genuinely reflect input from a wider range of stakeholders.
